To add in another element of fun to this project, I will be dropping travel bugs in geocaches along the Lewis and Clark Trail!
If you are not familiar with geocaching, it is "a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices." www.geocaching.com/guide It is a great way to get outside and explore when you are in a new place - or to discover new places where you live!
A trackable is a "game piece" for geocachers, hidden in some caches. It has a handy tag attached, giving information about recording on the website the object when found.
I'm taking these three trackables on Stage One of this trip. You check in on them at geocaching.com, and see the adventures each may have and places they may go! If you sign up for a free account, you can set your account to email you each time they are found or deposited in a new cache. Their names and tracking numbers are:
- Library Corps of Discovery: Truck #1 TB6F7R8
- Library Corps of Discovery: Truck #2 TB6F7V6
- Library Corps of Discovery: Helicopter TB6F7VK
I know there are public libraries that have caches, or provide information on caching, and I'm hoping to leave a bug at a library cache. If you know of any on the Trail, please leave a note in the comment section! Additionally, many state and national parks have geocaching programs and provide training to newbie catchers - check into a park near you for more ideas!
