I'm standing on a bluff, about a half mile down a trail from the Jeep - and it's beautiful here! At the Corps floated up the Missouri River, they pulled over here and William Clark climbed this bluff. There are several signs on the way here, giving all kinds of information about the area - great for an information fan like me!
It was about this same time of year that Clark climbed up here, so I'm sure the bugs were as numerous (and they didn't have DEET) and the area was as lush and green as I'm seeing it. There are no roads in sight here, but I heard a train somewhere off to my right as I was climbing. All I can see is green trees and the river; all I hear is the breeze moving the trees, a few birds, and some frogs chirping. I haven't seen any deer here, but their tracks are all over the trail.
It's pretty overcast today, which may be keeping down the noise. It didn't rain on me in the tent last night, but it was foggy and damp when I got up.
Overall - great trip so far!
