This is a very neat little park in Kansas City, Kansas. The by now familiar Lewis and Clark icon I've seen on highway signs is reproduced on the junction of the Missouri and the Kansas Rivers. In 1804, the Corps ran into some trouble here with the challenging river conditions and camped here two nights. They also worked out some personnel issues, with one member of the crew receiving 50 lashes and another received 100 for being drunk on guard duty. They also saw their first buffalo here, and described their only Carolina Parakeet (now extinct).
Lots of history here besides the Corp. All kinds of Trails going West headed from or through here. The Wyandotte (Huron) tribe has many monuments here, and a cemetery next to the public library downtown.
This park is loaded with mullberry trees! On a road trip, fresh fruits and veggies are always more challenging to find then packaged food - so it was a real treat for me to be here feasting on the little berries from the trees!
