These are the next seven trackables for Stages Two and Three of my Lewis and Clark trip! I dropped three trackables on Stage One, and two of them have been moved already. Each travel bug has a mission to visit public libraries, and I'm excited to see what kinds of libraries they visit over time.
Confused? You may not be a geocacher - yet! I have an entry from last month, with some info on geocaching, to help you catch up: http://publiclibraryresearch.blogspot.com/2014/06/geocaching-fun.html.
The idea is that trackables will be dropped in geocaches as I travel along the Lewis and Clark Trail, visiting pubic libraries. I've been visiting all the historic sites I can find along the trail, and have been hunting caches when I have cell service (definitely not always a given in rural America). It adds an element of fun into the trip, giving me something else to do in my nearly nonexistent free time on this trip. I did think I was going have more time to just hang out on this trip; but there are so many fun things to see and do that I haven not been able to fit them all in! So some caching is fun. And I'm hoping that of the ten trackables I'm dropping, at least a few will survive and will travel to libraries - giving me a way of prolonging the project I'm working on this summer, and letting other people share in it. And if it inspires a few more people to visit a public library - even better!!
If you want to track the trackables yourself, and see where they go (or find them!):
- Library Corps of Discovery: Blue bulldozer
- Library Corps of Discovery: Blue road grader
- Library Corps of Discovery: Green mini-dozer
- Library Corps of Discovery: Green truck
- Library Corps of Discovery: Orange crane
- Library Corps of Discovery: T-Rex Truck
- Library Corps of Discovery: White bulldozer
I am busy packing up again, this time to be on the road for a month. I head out Sunday, for Stage Two. I'm really excited about all the libraries I will be seeing, all the interesting surprises I will see, and the camping I will do! So far this has been an amazing adventure, and I think the next stages will be at least as fun.
I am so fortunate to be able to see all these public libraries - but you have a public library near (or near-ish) to you, so go visit it!! Check out their website, look at the great things they offer, and support them with your use! Every public library I have ever visited had SOMETHING interesting, fun, unique - go find out what is exciting and special in your library!! Not sure where your local library may be? Check this list for some ideas: http://www.publiclibraries.com/.
